6. Inca Man

Amiga

Collecting jewels from an ancient Peruvian ruin on our Amiga is one of our favorite hobbies during the weekends, so why not delve in this puzzle game that lets us do exactly that once we have explored Bury's Arcade Club? Some holiday gaming takes place and we look at some new form of text adventure.

A static screen platformer of the collect-them-all type, Inca Man challenges players to gather diamonds, fruit, and various items to unlock a key, open a door, and proceed. Enemies appear in multiple forms, from ghosts and bats to teleporting creatures, all within a Mesoamerican-inspired setting that blends subtle references to classics like Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Island, and Rick Dangerous. Detailed bitmap sprites, reminiscent of the Commodore Amiga, add charm, while the 30 or so levels offer steady difficulty. Cooperative and versus multiplayer modes encourage play with friends, though not as role-based or complex as something like Overcooked. Multiple difficulty settings adjust speed, monster behavior, power-ups, and the all-important timer. Passwords allow players to resume from later levels, avoiding complete restarts. Some design flaws emerge, particularly the unforgiving timer mechanic that encourages risky behavior and potential double deaths, as well as a few quirks in platforming and enemy movement. The Amiga-style soundtrack and title music stand out with their pleasant, sample-based tunes.
